It must cover the details. Include a full list of the services that will be included in the retainer, the number of hours that will be spent consulting each month, and describe the benefits that will be realized through the effort.
Strat with a cover letter thanking the customer and briefly explaining why you are qualified, then provide at least one more page that outlines the items I listed above.
Don't forget to include a clause that provides you an opportunity to charge additional fees if you go over the agreed upon time limit each month.
It is also good to list the items that are not included such as outside expenses like printing, copies, or shipments.
If you plan to get paid for travel time while consulting or researching for the client, make sure that is included in your list also, it is easy for this issue to become arguable latyer on if it is not in the agreement.
