Starting a Consulting Business And Need Help?

I have wanted to own my own business for some time now and I have many qualifications in all the right areas. My problem is getting motivated to do the things that need to be done, mostly marketing and just getting my name out there.

I’ve done more research and planning and all the initial things, but I’m on the next step and I just can’t seem to figure out exactly what that is. Can anyone give me marketing tips that will help me get started?

It will be in-home and my cell phone will be the phone number I will use. Phone books don’t publish cell numbers. I can use the newspapers but that’s something I’m not even sure anyone pays attention too. Any other tips on advertising?

first, congrats on your efforts.
i will ask you few questions, since your question is not really clear on the nature of your consulting business, that might help you plan out something.
who is your target market? who will benefit from you as a business person? how to reach them? online? print ads? what is the subject of interest of your target market?
once you identify your target market, conduct more research about their interest, the time/place where you find most of them.
EXAMPLE: if you target business individuals, they go out early in the morning to get to work, they listen to RADIO, on their way if they are stuck in traffic you will find BILLBOARDS around the area..etc.
2-design a neat business card
3-design a flyer! if you target baby boomers.
4-you can go door-to-door (if you have a tight budget.)
5-word to mouth!!! let your pool of network know what you are up to.
i can go on and on and on. i wish you were more specific in your question.
anyways i hope this helped.

We want to start our own consulting and brand communication coy, what shall we name it?

Hi

The best way to start a consulting business is to approach other professionals that serve the same market as you and tell them that you are just starting out and looking for clients. For instance a CPA just starting out would go to his/ her bank.

Once you get a client and after you have done a good job for them ask them if they know of anyone else who needs your type of services.

Also go to appropriate networking events – attend events where your clients are likely to be and get to know people.

Write articles and send them to appropriate trade journals – those that will be read by your potentail clients.

You need to be seen as an expert in your chosen field.

Hope that helps – thats how I started my consulting business.

Have an Amazing Day

Go to http://www.score.org/ to find the nearest SCORE chapter. In the upper left hand corner is a box to enter your zip code. Your nearest SCORE chapter will be on the next screen. Contact them to arrange for a free one on one meeting with a SCORE counselor.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization and is part of the Small Business Administration. They provide a public service by offering small business advice and training.

SCORE’s 10,500 volunteers have more than 600 business skills. Volunteers share their wisdom and lessons learned in business. The volunteers are working/retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders.

I understand your plight… IMO, marketing, promotion, and just getting the word out is tough. You can join networking groups (just do an internet search for networking groups) and your local Chamber of Commerce. Participating in online forums that compliment your business and including your business name in the signature file of your forum posts is a great way to market yourself. If you do this, however, be sure not to spam the forum – most don’t accept self-promotion. You have to provide accurate information that other post readers will benefit from. You can advertise your business on free community forums (the one that starts with a Crai… and ends with a .org comes to mind). Do you have a website? If so, make sure your site is optimized well so the search engines "like" it. Also, submit your site to online directories. This is just a start…I truly hope it helps. I have more ideas in my home business site: http://www.ewomanweb.com/promote.shtml
