Difference Between Social Research And Marketing Research?

I am a person working in the field of social sciences and i an interested to know if there is a difference between research conducted in the marketing field and sociological research.

I believe the difference is with Marketing reasearch is you take some aspects of social research and combine it to marketing to sell things to people. You will have to know what things are appealing to what people, what age groups to target and etc. Companies do this of course to make as most money as they can.

With Social research this is soley for the basis of studying social problems, social phenomenoms and have nothing to do necessarily with marketing anything.

I hope this helped a bit.

Where do I start with social marketing? What do I do first? Why does it help?
