5 steps normally cover a marketing process.

1. Market and environment analysis which runs in the background at all times.

2. Fixing the marketing target

3. Planning and deciding the marketing strategy

4. Selecting the marketing mix

5. Control marketing activity

Strategic planning is an overall business function which clearly defines objectives and assesses both the internal and external situation to formulate strategy, implement the strategy, evaluate the progress, and make adjustments as necessary to stay on track.
