Shock Horror, Facebook rolled out their new Facebook Profile on Sunday
As usual, there is the bleating from the vocal minority, who feel their privacy has been invaded. The new profile is only reformatting your information you have already included in profile. So don’t panic, I found experience simple and pain free.
So why the change? In the old profile, your information was spread over many tabs and stored chronologically. Making it difficult to tell your story because, they were only random facts.
The New Facebook Profile has an emphasis you as a person with your personal likes, and dislikes. So you share your favourite movies, sports team and the books you read. We might just have some in common.
Let’s take a look at the process
Here’s my profile before the update
After the update
To see how this unfolds Watch the 60 Minutes interview with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on “60 Minutes” interviewed by Lesley Stahl .
“You can see all the things that you have in common with that person,”
“It gives you this amazing connection with that person in a way that the current version of the profile that we have today just doesn’t do.” Mark Zuckerberg
It Starts with a Snapshot
“Your profile begins with a quick summary of who you are, giving friends an easy way to see where you live now, where you’re working and more. A collection of recently tagged photos also shows what you’ve been up to lately.” http://www.facebook.com/about/profile/
In 60 minutes interview, Zuckerberg, called the change an effort to put the most important details about a user front-and-center for new friends or friends looking to catch up.
“I work at Facebook, and I spend all of my time there, right?” he said. “I mean, here are my friends. I grew up in New York, and now I live in California, right. Those really kind of basic, important things.”
As you can see I Like Blues music and my favourite book is Atlas Shrugged, and follow the Sydney Swans. You may be thinking that sounds cool or sounds a bit boring, either way you get a better understanding of what makes me tick.
When I look at your profile get know you better.
Isn’t that what social media all about, building relationship with people who share common interests?
